Government Urged To Progress Offshore Projects Amid Moneypoint Transition

A Clare TD is calling on the government to urgently zone maritime areas for offshore wind energy development.

It comes as ESB is set to submit a planning application that would seek permission to convert Moneypoint from a coal powered to a 100% oil powered station.

The move is part of an agreement between the utility and Eirgrid, which would see Moneypoint operate as an emergency electricity supply to the national grid until 2029 in case of a national supply shortage.
