The Government is describing today as a significant day for the country as details of the revised National Development Plan have been unveiled.

Cabinet Ministers gathered in Cork this morning, to sign off on the 165 billion euro plan for capital spending over the next decade.

The revised plan includes all the major road projects promised in the 2018 version, however there’ll be a two to one split in favour of public transport.

The Green Party leader and Transport Minister Eamon Ryan says climate is at the heart of the plan.

But he’s warned that not every road project in the new National Development Plan is guaranteed to happen.

But despite this, Taoiseach Micheál Martin says he expects the road projects committed to will go ahead.

The plan includes a number of projects in Clare, some of which are already underway or have already been completed.

The Government has committed to progressing the Shannon River Crossing/ Killaloe Bypass, as well developments in conjunction with Shannon Commercial Properties.

Under the plan, Shannon Airport will continue to be supported in its role as a key tourism and business gateway for the regions, particularly with regard to the development of niche markets.

Other aspects that could have benefits for Clare in the longterm include the Limerick – Cork motorway and the Limerick-Shannon Metropolitan Area Transport Strategy.

Full details are expected to be published shortly.
