A Clare Independent TD claims the Governments new proposals to ease pressure on the immigration system will not tackle the root of the problem.
The plans will see a move away from the reliance of private hotel owners, with 14 thousand State-owned beds being provided by 2028.
Modular housing would also be developed on State-owned land, along with upgrading current IPAS centres, and the design and construction of new reception centres.
Ireland is also set to opt into the new EU Migration Pact that would commit to enhance border screening and a legally binding time frame for application decisions.
Scariff Deputy Michael McNamara has been telling Clare FM’s Daragh Dolan the Government has a track record of failing to enforce its own legislation.
