Clare County Council Urged Not To Defer Responsibility For Road Safety To Government

Clare County Council has been urged not to “kick the responsibility up the line to government” when it comes to tackling road safety.

Minister of State Jack Chambers has announced this week that speed limits are to be reduced, with local and rural roads to drop from 80km/h to 60km/h.

With five fatalities on this county’s roads recorded so far this year, Councillors Joe Garrihy, Shane Talty, Liam Grant, Cillian Murphy, Ian Lynch and Gabriel Keating have asked the local authority to liaise with Transport Infrastructure Ireland the Department of Transport to conduct a speed limit review across the country with additional focused reviews of towns and villages.
