Clare is bracing itself for a red weather warning later this afternoon as Storm Barra hits the county.

The alert will come into effect from 4 o’clock this afternoon, while orange warnings are in place in 11 other coastal counties.

A number of homes in the Kilkee, Kilrush and Cratloe areas are without power, with high waves, high tides and heavy rain set to bring coastal flooding.

Clare County Council is dealing with a number of fallen trees already throughout the county, with the local authority urging people not to make unneccesary journeys today.
