Claims Clare Shouldn’t Have To Wait To Implement Social Housing Pyrite Grant Scheme

It’s claimed Clare shouldn’t wait for another county to take the lead in implementing a grant scheme for social housing affected by defective concrete blocks.

The Department of Housing launched the Enhanced Defective Concrete Block Grant Scheme in July of this year which offers affected homeowners a maximum payment of €420,000 to either rebuild or carry out works on their homes.

However, there is currently no such scheme in place for those living in social housing affected by pyrite.

Cathaoirleach of the Shannon Municipal District Donna McGettigan believes councillors have the resources and expertise to implement such a scheme at a local level.
