The HSE’s Winter Plan has promised an additional 4.7 million home care hours, a move that has been given a cautious welcome by Family Carers Ireland.

But the organisation, which has a centre in Ennis, has raised grave concern over the way these supports will be administered.

It’s advising people not to allow their loved ones, who will be in need of further care, be discharged from hospital before a care plan is in place.

They say delays could lead to additional pressures for carers.

The Organisation’s Head of Communications, Catherine Cox says more supports are needed.

Today, meanwhile, one local carer has also spoken out for more help for people like her.

Rose, who comes from Tulla, takes care of her elderly mother and told today’s edition of Morning Focus that she thinks it’s unfair that carers have had to go through a lengthy applicaiton process for financial support, when the 350 euro Pandemic Unemployment Payment was made readily available to workers.

Rose says it feels like no-one is fighting their corner.
