The people of Clare have been flocking to the county town in their droves this lunchtime to tick the final boxes off their Christmas Shopping lists.

With consumers nationally expected to fork out a total €12m just this lunchtime, local retailers have been hailing a major economic surge.

Business owners and members of the public are enjoying the benefits of a Christmas Shopping surge in the county town.

Within the first fortnight of December alone, Bank Of Ireland recorded an increased national consumer spend of 8% on this time last year.

All told, the average household in Clare is forecast to spend an extra €1,000 this Christmas compared to last.
