The Today Show – Wednesday March 7th

Elaine Dalton, Project Co-Ordinator with The Clare Women’s network spoke to The Today Show ahead of tonight’s public talk – discussing Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual and Transgender (LGBT) issues. Guest speakers will talk about the following issues; female to male, male to female gender transition; homophobia; bullying; bi-sexuality; stigma and stereotyping; personal stories. All who are affected by these issues are welcome to attend at the West County Hotel, tonight Wednesday the 7th March at 7.30pm. This is one of a series of events to mark International Women’s Day on Thursday, 8th March.  Also discussing the issue of being gay or lesbian in Clare was Bernadette Kenny.  Bernadette joined Gavin in studio to talk about young people who are not open about their sexuality and how there are supports in place to help them and offer advice.  Bernadette and her partner Heidi Hummel are the first lesbian couple in Clare to have a civil partnership and campaign for equality for the LGBT community.

Dr Máire Finn of the Ennis Family Medical Centre joined The Today Show for her weekly medical feature – this week Máire focused on skin conditions including acne, eczema, common treatments, emollients and moisturising, psoriasis and dry skin conditions.

Myles Purcell is this year’s Adjudicator of the West Clare Drama Festival in Doonbeg.  The 51st annual West Clare Drama Festival continues this week with stage plays from local groups and from drama groups from all over the country.  Myles has the honour of adjudicating on all performances and described what the festival has turned out so far and what’s coming up before it ends on March 12th.

Teresa Leahy of Burren Players in Lisdoonvarna was in studio to discuss her role as Director of their play “Lend Me A Tenor”. She was joined by cast members Mary Hawkes Greene who plays the character of Maria Morelli and Andy Grindrod who plays Tito Morelli.  The show takes place at the Royal Spa Hotel from tomorrow Thursday 8th to the 10th of March at 8.30pm. The story revolves around renowned tenor Tito Merelli who is scheduled to sing the lead in the show. Unfortunately, even before the star leaves his hotel room, everything begins to unravel!
