Julian de Spainn, Ard Runai of Conradh an Gaeilge spoke to The Today Show following last weekends national conference of Young Fine Gael.  A resolution passed at their national conference in Tullamore called for the removal of Irish as a compulsory subject in the Leaving Certificate – a move that has been criticised by Fianna Fáil. Julian discussed how the language is taught and how students feels about it – according to their surveys and research the majority of people feel it needs an important place at the core of the education system.

Michael Killeen, Co-founder of employment action group – Hireland updated us on the progress the initiative has made to date. When the campaign launched on January 16, it was hoped 5,000 job pledges would be made by July this year. Up to now over 2,500 jobs pledges were made from a total of 589 companies. The big concern was whether ‘pledges’ would translate into jobs – well the good news is that over 100 people have started jobs that were pledged on Hireland since mid January.

Dr Máire Finn of the Ennis Family Medical Centre joined The Today Show for her weekly medical feature – this week Máire focused on stroke and how to spot the warning signs.

Rugby Correspondent with The Irish Times – John O’Sullivan joined Gavin to discuss speculation that Munster boss Tony McGahan might be leaving the provincial side.
Munster have yet to confirm Tony McGahan’s departure at the end of the season. According to reports, McGahan has been offered a coaching role with the Australian set up and informed his players and staff in recent days that he will be leaving.
Anthony Foley, Eddie O’Sullivan and Wayne Smith are amongst those being linked to the vacancy.

Bunratty singer Gari Deegan was live in studio to talk about his music and how he’s getting on as a contestant on The Voice of Ireland. Gari is an accomplished musician and last year released his song – I Know You Want Me to great acclaim.  He’s made it through the battle stage of the competition and will be looking for your vote for the next stage of the competition.
