The Today Show – Thursday May 24th

Aine Carroll of the National Consumer Agency spoke to Gavin Grace on The Today Show this afternoon about how to budget for a foreign holiday. The National Consumer Agency (NCA) today launched its holiday budget planner on www.nca.ie to help holidaymakers taking a break in Ireland this summer to budget for their trip. The online budget planner sets out the main holiday expenses that need to be budgeted for such as the cost of accommodation, eating out, and entry into tourist attractions. Consumers can use the budget planner to work out how they want to spend their money and keep within their holiday budget. It can also help them to work out a daily spending limit

Many know Cass Ingram as "Dr. Oregano". He joined Gavin in studio to discuss the healing powers of the herb oregano. Cass Ingram has devoted his life to researching these healing foods and herbs and has written over 30 books on the subject of herbal medicine.  He’s coming to Open Sesame in Ennis tonight for a talk from 7 to 9pm.

Aisling O’Donoghue is from Meelick, she joined the Today Show to talk about homes for feral cats, which have been found around Limerick.  Feral cats are cats that are not used to human contact and are used to being outdoors but as Aisling explained are not dangerous or vicious. She is a member of the group Limerick Feral Cats and explained how finding a home for them is a matter of urgency as many of the cats will have to be put down if they can’t be re-housed. At present the group has 25 cats but 14 of these are in danger of being put to sleep if new homes can’t be found. If your interested please see their facebook page for more details http://www.facebook.com/LimerickFeralCats or call the group on 085 133 5364

The Through the Ages series continued on The Today Show, and featured the school children of Moveen National School.  The series documents today’s pupils from across Clare bringing to life memoirs and folklore collected by students 75 years ago as part of an oral history project set in motion by what was then the Folklore Commission in 1937. The essays that resulted from this project form a unique record of the customs, beliefs, stories and songs of that time. They include tales, traditions, old cures, riddles and jokes.

Stephen McDermott from Clare FM’s 11 to 1 Show and our resident film reviewer was in studio to talk about the latest releases to cinema including Iron Skies and Snow White featuring Kirsten Stewart and Charlize Theron.
