The Today Show – Thursday February 9th

Conor Faughnan of Director of Policy with AA Roadwatch joined Gavin Grace on the Today Show to discuss speed limits across the country.  They’re to be reviewed as part of an overhaul of the current system. The audit could see limits on some rural and secondary routes reduced, while other dual carriageways and motorways could be revised upwards. Transport minister Leo Varadkar ordered the review that will be carried out by the National Roads Authority and local councils. It’s hoped the review will improve road safety and bring about a reduction in accidents and road deaths.
In response to the discussion Peggy in Connolly Villas in Ennis and Tony on the Shanaway Road in Ennis called the show to highlight road safety and speeding issues in their areas.

Charlie Weston, Personal Finance Editor with the Irish Independent joined the show to talk about personal debt. It comes as thousands of people are failing to make any inroads into their credit card debt, despite customers cutting up hundreds of thousands of cards and making efforts to pay off their bills. The average credit card debt is now €1,330 — down only marginally from 2008.

David Horan, Director of Macbeth, which comes to Glor tomorrow night spoke to Gavin about the uniqueness of the play, will be captioned and audio described for audiences with visual and hearing impairment. These performances will be facilitated by Arts & Disability Ireland. Padraig Naughton, Director  of Arts & Disability Ireland also joined the show to discuss how he hopes the accessibility of the play will attract those with disabilities across the county.
