The Today Show – Thursday February 23rd

On The Today Show this afternoon Clare FM’s Gavin Grace spoke with Mary O’Connor, CEO of the Children in Hospital Ireland group.  Mary discussed her group’s view of the refusal by An Bord Pleanala to sanction the development of the new children’s hospital in Dublin. She says the decision will have a profound, negative impact on the delivery of health care for the sick children in the greater Dublin area for the sickest children from around the whole country who require tertiary care.

Eamon Kelly of the Clare County Enterprise Board joined the show to explain a new  “Start Your Own Business” Seminar and course which is taking place next Wednesday in the Woodstock Hotel in Ennis (between 6pm – 9.30pm). This one night seminar aims to equip people with the essentials to start up your own business. Programme content includes Enterprise Agency Supports; Your Business Idea; Customer Needs; Developing a Business Plan; Sales and Marketing; Social Media; Book-keeping and Taxation and how to form a legal company or register as self-employed.

Gerard Cronin is a survivor of oesophageal cancer and joined Gavin on The Today Show to talk about the illness and it’s prevalence in Ireland. Gerard is urging the Clare public to support Lollipop day – the major fundraising drive of the Oesophageal Cancer Fund taking place this Friday and Saturday. They have achieved their full quota of volunteers in Clare for the 2012 Lollipop Day to raise funds for the charity. Thousands of volunteers will be on the streets this Friday (tomorrow) and Saturday selling one-euro lollipops, trying to raise money for research into the disease.
