On today’s edition of The Today Show, Clare FM’s Gavin Grace spoke with Harriet Parsons, Services Co-ordinator with Bodywhys – The Eating Disorder Association of Ireland.  It follows the news that Vogue Magazine is making a statement about its own models: Too young and too thin is no longer in. The 19 editors of Vogue magazines around the world made a pact to project the image of healthy models, according to a Conde Nast International announcement. They agreed to "not knowingly work with models under the age of 16 or who appear to have an eating disorder," and said they will ask casting directors to check IDs at photo shoots and fashion shows and for ad campaigns. Allergy Expert, Dr. Caroline Dore Geraghty discussed new Irish research on how hay fever sufferers in Munster are tired, taking time off work and avoiding sex. The impact of hay fever on the people of Munster is immense with 20% of sufferers taking time off work, nearly 60% experiencing sleep deprivation, more than a quarter admitting to arguing with their partner and nearly 20% who avoid sex when hay fever symptoms set in. Alarmingly, a third of sufferers say that their symptoms have impacted their driving.

Molly Muldoon, Deputy Editor of Irish Central in New York joined us for update us on the latest happenings stateside. Today Molly focused on President Michael D. Higgins first official visit to the United States. She discussed the events he’s been attending in New York and Boston and the welcome that has been extended to him.

Richard Morrison of the Burrenbeo Trust also told listeners about this weekend’s ‘Dawn Chorus – Breakfast with the Birds’.  This walk takes place on Sunday 6th May, at 5.45am (meet outside Spar Supermarket, Ballyvaughan). It’s the first walk of the Burren in Bloom festival and as Burrenbeo’s May walk. Burren resident Gordon D’Arcy, natural historian, author and wildlife artist is leading the way. 

Also on today’s show Aidan Lynam spoke to Gavin about “Rev Up for DSI”. On behalf of Down Syndrome Ireland 150 bikers are gearing up for a three day charity mystery tour – "REV-UP 4 DSI". The participants will be stopping off at 9.30am at Molly’s Bar and Restaurant in Killaloe on Monday, 7th May for the 1,000km motorcycle challenge, which will see the riders touring across the most scenic parts of the country. The campaign has raised more than €1.1 million of much needed funds for Down Syndrome Ireland since it started in 2005
