The Today Show – Friday June 22nd

On this afternoon’s edition of The Today Show, Gavin Grace was joined by Aiden Ward, nephew of charity fundraiser Tom Ward. Tom, a prolific fundraiser from Sligo, collapsed and died from a sudden heart attack near his home on 17th May. For the months prior to his sudden passing, the 51-year-old had been in training for what was to be his final charity walk of 130 miles over two days – from Spancilhill to Keash. His brothers, nephews and three daughters Louise (22), Rebecca (21) and Rachel (16) will set off from Spancill Hill in county Clare under the close supervision of Tom’s nephew Aiden in the early hours of Friday, 22 June. Their first stop will be in Knock, county Mayo where they will stay overnight before continuing the walk home on 23 June. All funds raised will be donated to Crumlin Children’s Hospital. Eoin Murphy, Entertainment Editor with Irish Daily Mail joined Gavin Grace to talk about the end of Westlife! Louis Walsh says there’ll "be tears" this weekend as Westlife leave the stage after their farewell show. The group, who have scored 14 number one singles in the UK and have had more than two dozen top 10 hits, play their final gig tomorrow. Walsh, who has been their manager for 14 years, believes the performance at Croke Park in Dublin will be emotional.

Also on today’s show Susan Valdez and Katie Styles from Phoenix, Arizona and Louise Kelly and Muireann O’Shea from Ennis met with Gavin Grace to talk about the Youth Ambassador exchange programme that the girls are undertaking.  They were accompanied by Cllr. Mary Howard from the Ennis Phoenix Twinning Committee. Susan and Katie are currently on a 3 week exchange programme in Ennis where they’re staying with Louise and Muireann as part of the Youth Ambassador programme and Ennis Phoenix twinning initiative.  Louise and Muireann will travel to Phoenix in the coming weeks and experience life over there!
