69% Increase In Illegal Dumping Complaints To Clare County Council

The number of complaints made to Clare County Council in relation to illegal dumping, waste management and litter have increased by 69% in the last year.

New figures from the local authority show there was also a surge in pollution complaints across the county last month.

During April, Clare County Council’s Waste Enforcement dealt with 201 public complaints.

The breakdown involved five instances of reported littering, seven instances of alleged dog fouling, 44 complaints of illegal dumping, and 4 complaints over waste presentation, while a further 141 other complaints relating to waste were also made.

In total, it marks a 69% increase on the 119 complaints received by the Waste Enforcement Team for the same month of 2023.

Additionally, last month, members of the public made 19 complaints relating to pollution in Clare, which is a rise of 72% from the 11 recorded in April last year.

The Waste Enforcement Team ultimately served four warning and advisory letters last month and carried out inspections of three unauthorised sites.

Since January , 41 litter complaints have been lodged with the local authority, 25 complaints have been made over dog fouling along with 242 complaints of illegal dumping.
