The Today Show – Friday February 10th

On today’s show Gavin discussed the news that Michael Healy Rae, the Independent TD from Kerry has called on the government to introduce a new registration policy so that we can avoid driving around with ‘13’ on next year’s cars. Deputy Healy Rae is worried that our superstitions will end up shying away from buying new cars that are registered in 2013 and the new car market will suffer as a result. He believes that new car buyers will end up waiting an extra year so that they will avoid buying a car that has the number 13 on it.  Gavin spoke to Miriam in Lahinch who contacted the show to voice her opinion on the issue – she feels the whole idea of changing the registrations is ridiculous and people should not stick to old superstitions. While Clare FM’s Dermot Hogan gauged the Clare public’s reaction to the possibility of changing number plates for 2013 – he asked people if superstition of the number 13 would affect their choice…

Molly Muldoon, Deputy Editor with Irish Central in New York joined the Today Show for her weekly update on all things happening stateside that has an impact on the Irish community in the US and indeed here at home. This week she focused on the Taoiseach’s visit to NYC, Bill Clinton’s hosting of a New York round-table forum on the Irish economy this week. She also discusses New York Fashion week and the latest on the immigration bill.

Ger Cahir, a 33 year old Farmer from Ruan was in studio to talk about he got involved with
Feirm Factor on TG4. Ger is a suckler farmer and is married to Laura. He is one of the contestants on this year’s series of Feirm Factor – a reality show where Ireland’s young farmers show us the world they live in and teach us what it’s like to survive in the agricultural industry. The series starts on Monday 13th February at 9.30pm.

Mattie Murphy, Manager of the Gort Hurling Team had a word with Gavin ahead of their big game this weekend. Gort take on Coolderry of Offaly for Saturday’s All Ireland Hurling Semi Final.  Throw in at the Gaelic Grounds, Limerick is at 2pm.  Gavin was also joined in studio by Kevin McGillicuddy of Clare Fm Sport for a pre view of tonight’s Sideline View.

Actor Simon Delaney also spoke to Gavin on The Today Show ahead of this weekend’s IFTA’s.

The annual Irish Film and Television Awards take place on Saturday night where the cream of Irish actors, from both big and small screen, will battle it out for prizes. Well-known actor of stage and screen Simon Delaney will act as Master of Ceremonies for the event.
