Molly Muldoon is the Deputy Editor of Irish Central in New York. She joined Gavin Grace on The Afternoon Show to discuss last Friday’s tragedy in Connecticut. Funerals are taking place for the victims of Friday’s mass shooting at a school in the state of Connecticut. 20 children and 6 adults were killed by a gunman in Newtown. The atrocity’s prompted more debate on the future of America’s gun laws. US politicians have held a minute’s silence for the victims of Friday’s Sandy Hook school shootings, as they come under growing pressure to change gun laws. More than 150-thousand people have signed a petition calling for tougher restrictions.

Bernard Donohue is the Chairman of Agri Aware, the agri-food educational body, which has appealed to the general public to support the Irish agri-food industry, by buying local, quality and sustainably produced Irish food this Christmas. According to Agri Aware’s Chairman, buying Irish will support 300,000 jobs on farms and in Irish agri-food companies nationwide.

Pat Little is the CEO of the Migraine Association of Ireland, he spoke to Gavin about how the festive season can be more than just a headache. For the half a million Irish people who suffer from migraine it can be the time of year that they are most susceptible to an attack. Mary Gilligan is the Rose of Clare for 2012 who now lives in Brisbane, Australia. A native of Killimer, Kilrush, she was crowned Rose of Clare earlier this year but will spend Christmas in Australia, after emigrating late last month.  She spoke to Gavin about her thoughts on celebrating Christmas abroad and what prompted her to leave Ireland.She also discussed what life is like down under in relation to lifestyle and employment.

Thomas Dormer is a 19 year old Ennis musician who is hoping to achieve a lifelong dream and secure a recording contract when he participates in the final stages of the All-Ireland Music Competition on January 4 – 5th next. Thomas will compete against 15 other acts from all over Ireland during the Semi-Final stage of the competition on January 4th at the West County Hotel, Ennis. The UL student will be seeking to reach the Final of the inaugural competition, which will be held at the same venue on January 5th. Mercury Music Winner and Hot Press Best Female Artist Gemma Hayes and Eurovision winner Paul Harrington will judge the acts that emerged from regional heats to qualify for the latter stages of the competition. A recording contract and TMI representation awaits the winning act.
