The Afternoon Show – Thursday October 11th 2012

Joining Clare FM’s Gavin Grace on The Afternoon Show, Tony Griffin, Clare Hurling All Star discussed the latest in the Lance Armstrong doping controversy. The US Anti-Doping Agency has accused Lance Armstrong of cheating his way to the top of world cycling. It’s produced a 1,000 page document alleging Armstrong used banned substances EPO and testosterone. His lawyers have called the report a "hatchet job", but the US Anti Doping Agency has deemed it the most "sophisticated, professionalised and successful doping programme that sport has ever seen". Tony Griffin today called on Lance Armstrong to come clean on details released by the United States Anti-Doping Agency this morning. Tony’s statement reads, “My own personal belief is that we do not have the right to judge one another, we can comment on the actions but know that none of us have the right to condemn the person. Yet Lance Armstrong as an iconic figure to many, as a friend, father, son and as a man has a responsibility to clearly outline what is the truth here and set a precedent that will in time have positive ramifications across world and strike a chord at every level of society”.

Rory Stephens is the Secretary of Sixmilebridge/Kilmurry Macra na Feirme, he spoke to Gavin today following good news for the new club. The semi final results are in for Macra’s AIB Club of the Year competition and the 7 clubs who are through to the final include Sixmilebridge / Kilmurry Macra who have made the shortlist for the Best Emerging Club category.

Derek Barrett of The Shannon Gospel Choir was in studio to talk about their success so far. In their short time together they have sung at concerts and festivals around Ireland and have performed with Paddy Casey, Declan O Rourke, The Harlem Gospel Choir, and also played support to Paul Brady. The repertoire of the Shannon Gospel Choir includes songs from Jessie J, Katy Perry, Ben E King, Labrinth, Coldplay, Earth Wind & Fire and Michael Jackson as well as Gospel standards. They choose songs that have a positive message in the hope that they will connect with people, inspire, encourage or affect them in some way.
