On The Afternoon Show Gavin Grace was joined by Martin McMahon of the Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association from O’Callaghan’s Mills to discuss the upcoming budget and how it could affect agriculture. Clare FM’s Afternoon Show was also out on the streets to ask listeners how they felt on the subject – should exemptions be given to farmers in the upcoming budget? 

Conor Faughnan of AA Roadwatch discussed how learner drivers will have to swap their L-plates for N-plates once they pass their test. That’s according to the Irish Independent, which says laws due to take effect next summer will brand the newly qualified motorist a ‘novice’ driver for two years. It’s also reported that learners and novices could lose their license if they clock up 6 penalty points, unlike more experienced drivers who can collect up to 12 before they’re put off the road.

Sarah McCarthy is the Media Spokesperson for FEE Galway (Free Education for Everyone).  She spoke to Gavin about how students gathered in Eyre Square, Galway this morning for a protest over cuts to third level grants and plans to increase fees. It coincided with the visit of the Minister for Education Ruairí Quinn, who addressed the NAPD annual. The protest was organised by FEE, who have accused Minister Quinn of breaking pre-election promises.

Dana, Ireland’s first Eurovision Winner and former MEP and Presidential candidate joined Gavin on the show to talk about “all kinds of everything”, from the Eurovision to the Irish political scene. She chatted about her view of Eurovision today and also about any plans she may have to return to political life.  She features in the "Best of Eurovision" show at the University Concert Hall, Limerick this weekend.

Alan Byrne is the Author of a new book – Philip Lynott: Renegade of Thin Lizzy. Alan Byrne explores the life of the charismatic front-man, his addiction, his role as father and husband and his music. Alan has been researching and writing about the careers of Thin Lizzy and Phil Lynott since 1998 and has produced documentaries on various aspects of the man and the band.

Elaine Donnellan also let listeners know about “Think Pink”, which takes place tonight in the Wolfe Tones Sionna Club. It’s a special event being held for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
