The midweek edition of Morning Focus welcomed the hugely popular singer Tommy Fleming to studio.
Tommy joined Gavin for a chat about his latest projects and a frank interview on the lessons he learned from a car crash 19 years ago. Listen back below:
The show opened with a discussion on the closure for a number of months of Latoon Creek Bridge close to Clarecastle. Gavin was joined in studio by Emelyn Heaps of Castle Antiques Arts and Crafts Centre and by Cllr Paul Murphy, Chairperson of the Ennis Municipal District and a Clarecastle native.
The show then heard from Bishop of Killaloe Fintan Monahan. The Bishop has recently returned from a trip to Kenya with Trócaire. He spoke about this and about a recent retreat to consider the future needs of the diocese. Listen back below:
With a major climate change summit underway in German this month, there have been strong words from Trocaire for Ireland’s minister with responsibility for the issue, Denis Naughten. Gavin was joined on the line by the Kilmaley native who is Director of Trocaire, Éamonn Meehan.
Ahead of groundbreaking event in Clare on the issue of domestic violence, Gavin was joined by Madeline McAleer, Research and Development Officer with Haven Horizons. Seminars take place on Tuesday, November 28 at 11am and 7pm at the Old Ground Hotel in Ennis and they’re open to the public.
Then, Gavin heard from a group in Miltown Malbay who are bringing asylum seekers from the direct provision centre in Meelick to West Clare next February for a holiday. Gavin was joined by Fiona Whyte and Lorna Cahill of the ‘Miltown Melting Pot’.
With a new study by Amnesty International showing that online abuse is a worsening issue for women, Gavin was joined by Jean Tierney of Clare Youth Service who spoke about initiatives there to address the problem. Listen back below:
