On Tuesday’s Morning Focus we heard from Michael D Higgins, Ireland’s President Elect
He’s been elected the ninth president of Ireland – with an overwhelming majority in the end – over a million people voted for Michael D
He gave his victory speech in Dublin Castle on Saturday – he said he wants to be a President for everyone

John Higgins from Ballycar, Newmarket on Fergus – Michael D’s brother- and Kathleen Lyons in Shannon – Michael D Higgins’ Sister- gave their reaction to the fantastic victory, as did Deputy Michael McNamara of the Labour Party

Political Reporter with The Irish Examiner Juno McEnroe also reflected on the weekend’s results of the Presidential Election, and the two referemdums.

Kieran McCarthy from Shannon completed the Dublin City Marathon in 3 hours and 56 minutes
His three year old daughter Aoibheann was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis 16 months ago. The couple were initially heartbroken with the news but are now concentrating on the future and getting the best possible care and treatment for Aoibheann.
Kieran took on an Iron man type challenge over the Bank Holiday weekend to raise funds for TLC4CF (Tipperary, Limerick and Clare for Cystic Fibrosis) which aims to improve CF Treatment facilities in the Mid-West, and the Clare Crusaders (their clinic in Barefield provides care and treatment for special needs children, including a range of therapies for Aoibheann).
Kieran’s plan was to swim 3 kilometres in Shannon (120 lengths of the Shannon Pool), before getting on his bike to cycle 230 kilometres through the night to Dublin to be in time for the Dublin city marathon which he will then run

Willie McGrath, Organiser of the West Clare Mini Marathon & Cancer Care Centre had a word with John
He wants to re-emphasise the need for sponsored cards for the marathon. They had a lot of issues last year. Also due to the huge requirement from families who are dealing with cancer at the moment they are struggling in terms of funding so he wants to mention the open days
