Morning Focus Tuesday July 31

Gardai have released specific crime statistics for Kilrush and it’s environs for the month of July, with the figures indicating low levels of crime with 3 recorded burglaries, 5 instances of criminal damage, 10 public order offences and 3 thefts of vehicles

On Tuesday’s Morning Focus we heard reporter Gavin Grace discuss this with Superintendent Gerry Wall of the Kilrush Garda Division

John Cooke then discussed yesterday’s meeting with West Clare councillors Oliver Garry in Kildysart and Bill Chambers in Cooraclare
 
Deputy Pat Breen of Fine Gael also attended the meeting and he had a word on the situation.

One of the country’s best known and most loved authors, Maeve Binchy, has died after a short illness
The 72 year old, who was best known for her novels Circle of Friends and Light a Penny Candle passed away at a Dublin hospital yesterday evening
Former RTE broadcaster Ciana Campbell of the Ennis Book Club Festival met Maeve many times and remembered her warmth and paid tribute to her contribution to Irish writing
We played some snippets of Maeve Binchy on being yourself as a writer and Maeve Binchy on women’s writing in Ireland and being the "mother of all chick lit"!

Marie Keane, President Clare Law Association and a volunteer solicitor with the Free Legal Advice Clinic at the Clare Citizens’ Information Centre joined John for the final legal slot of the Summer
She looked at the findings of FLAC’s Annual Report findings that showed the clinic in Clare to be the busiest in Munster in 2011
Our legal advice slot will resume in September.

The launch of ‘Kilmihil Revisited’ written by the local Active Retirement Association will take place during the Kilmihil August Festival on Saturday at 8.30pm
The book costs €10 and all profits will go back into Kilmihil Active Retirement Association funds
John was joined in studio by Stella O’Gorman and Maura Cotter, members of the Kilmihil Revisited Group, to speak about the new book.
