Clare’s All-Ireland Hurling Final hopes came grinding to a halt last weekend with a 2-13 to 1-17 loss to Galway. Morning Focus began today by looking back on the match and Clare’s whole journey.

Then, we heard from Theresa O’Donoghue from Community Group LINKS. Theresa was and is one of many critical of the Department of Justice’s treatment of Lisdoonvarna and the asylum seekers there. Although three projects in the area have secured funding under the Communities Integration Fund many others haven’t and Theresa says it isn’t good enough. The Department of Justice says it is committed to providing supports to people in direct provision in King Thomand Centre, Lisdoonvarna and it is in the process of finalizing a further provision of €22,500 for Clare Immigrant Support Centre to provide an Outreach Project.

The show continued with a lady you’ll have heard from on the show before Valery Larkin. Valery has been trying to create the World’s Largest Blanket. After a lot of hard work and squares sent in from everywhere in the country and beyond the blanket is reaching completion. On Sunday the 26th of August at the Showgrounds in Ennis the finished blanket will finally be measured and hopefully a record will be broken. The occasion will be open to the public but if you just can’t wait to see the World’s Largest Blanket Valery needs people to help lay out the blanket on Saturday the 25th. If you’re interested just call 086 368 5030.

The hour finished out with Clare FM’s own Eoin O’Neill, a presenter of the West Wind, paying tribute to the well known musician Tommy Peoples. The renowned fiddle player and composer passed away in his native Donegal this weekend.

The second hour opened with Garda Focus.

Then we heard from an Irish Daily Mail journalist, Seán O’Driscoll, who visited Greece shortly after the wildfires which claimed the lives of 91 people including Clareman Brian O’Callaghan-Westropp. While in Greece Seán met one family in particular that struck a chord with him and he has set up a fundraising campaign for that family.
