Morning Focus – Tuesday 05/09/17

Tuesday’s edition of Morning Focus brought listeners a lively mix of human interest, politics and culture.

The show opened with an interview with Clare FG TD Joe Carey who discussed government priorities as the new Dáil term begins.

High profile businessman Declan Ganley was Gavin’s next guest. He’s calling on United Airlines to review a decision to curtail winter services from Shannon to New York.

Gavin was then joined on the line by Catherine Shanahan from the Irish Examiner and by Fianna Fáil’s Councillor Tom McNamara, who is Cathaoirleach of Clare County Council. They discussed strike action by locum doctors which is affecting some Emergency Departments in this region.

Tommy Corbett of Carey Corbett Financial Services then joined Gavin in studio to give advice on preparing for retirement.

This week is Palliative Care Week and to explore the issue of hospice care, Clare FM’s Fiona McGarry visited Milford Hospice. She spoke with Kay and Frank Lee who lost their son Shane at the age of 26 to an aggressive form of cancer. They discussed the huge support that Milford provided to Shane, his friends and family.
