Morning Focus – Thursday 10/5/18

Thursday’s Morning Focus met some of the Tulla students who, this week, won big at the Young Social Innovator Awards.

Students from TY at St Joseph’s Secondary School with their teacher Deirdre Hogan joined Gavin in studio.

They told Gavin about their project which is aimed at increasing awareness of healthy and unhealthy relationships.

The show opened with a discussion with Dep Joe Carey (FG) about a range of topics including under-spending of schools in Clare and the decision of Apple to shelve it’s data centre plans for Athenry.

Gavin then heard reaction on the schools issue from President of the INTO, Corofin man Joe Killeen.

Then, Gavin heard from Eoin Keane who is one of the Clare organisers of a Darkness into Light event in Brussels.

The next issue to be discussed was a protest on Sunday (May 13) over Irish Cement’s grant of permission to burn waste, including tyres at its plan in Mungret. Gavin heard from Claire Kinsella of Limerick Against Pollution.

Then, Gavin heard about the 10th annual gathering of the O’Dea clan in Ennis which is set to bring 200 people to the town at the weekend.

Neven Maguire, the leading Irish chef was among Gavin’s guests ahead of a visit to Ennis on Friday (May 11).

There was another great package too, this time from Ben Sweeney who went along to the family fun day in Ennis organised by the Killaloe Diocese.
