Clare County Councillors have opted to proceed with their budget plans for the remainder of the year, despite the Environment Minister’s decision to with-hold almost a quarter of a million euro worth of funding for the local authority
Minister Phil Hogan’s decision came in response to a 62% compliance rate on the household charge in the county, and prompted a special meeting of Clare County Councillors on Friday evening

On Monday’s Morning Focus John Cooke discussed the outcome of, and the issues raised at the meeting with the Mayor of Clare Pat Daly, Fine Gael Deputy  Joe Carey and Independent Councillor James Breen who were in studio and Shannon Councillor Gerry Flynn.

Over 150,000 people are expected to descend on Galway city this week for the annual Galway Races
The event kicks off today, with a seven race card going to post at Ballybrit from 4pm

Provisional figures from the HSE show a 200% increase in the number of VTEC E.coli infections notified in Ireland during the first half of 2012 compared with the same period in 2011
This increase comes on top of continual increased incidence rates since 2005
 Two hundred and twelve cases were reported nationally in the first six months of 2012 compared with 69 cases for the same period last year
40 of the cases this year were reported in the  Mid-West region ( Limerick, Clare And North Tipperary) Dr. Patrick O’Sullivan- Director of Public Health with the HSE Mid-West- explained and had some advice for listeners.

Barry Donnelly, a Tyrone native living in Ennis will lead a 180 mile sponsored walk from Clare to Tyrone this week to raise money for the charity that aids children in Africa
He will leave Ennis on Thursday and hopes to arrive in his native Dromore on Sunday 
Barry is heavily involved in GAA and various players will join the walk at different intervals
