Clare County Council is reminding farmers across the County of the importance of only employing the services of correctly authorised waste collectors who hold a valid and current waste collection permit.
The local authority says it is a legal requirement for any person or company involved in the collection of waste, such as farm plastics and scrap metal, to hold a waste collection permit. The independent all-island research report published by the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) today (Friday, 7 August 2015), which indicates that a positive general attitude to the Irish language has grown in the south from 49% in 2001 to 67% in 2013, and in the north from 29% in 2001 to 45% in 2013. The same report demonstrates that there has also been an increase in the amount of people throughout the island that believes the Governments are not doing enough for the Irish language, from 15% in 2001 to 37% in 2013 in the south and from 15% in 2001 to 29% in 2013 in the north, and Conradh na Gaeilge is calling on the Governments to take action to uphold the rights of the Irish-speaking and Gaeltacht community as they should. Donal O Lionsigh, Secretary of Chlar as Gaeilge who is Currently supervising at the Irish College in Carrigaholt and Donal O' Hainifein, Principle of Gaelscoil Ennis welcomed the report.
The Director of this year's Merriman Summer School and Sociologist from UCC Dr. Linda Connolly spoke at this week's Merriman Summer School in Ennis which opens on Wed. Aug 12th by former Supreme Court Judge, CatherineMcGuinness, with the opening lecture to be given by Prof. Tony Fahey of UCD . This year’s theme is Love and Marriage revisited, and a range of topics will be addressed by a fine panel of speakers chosen by this year’s Director, UCC sociologist, Dr. Linda Connolly. Academics and writers, sociologists and historians will all bring their own perspectives on this timely theme, with poets, writers and musicians taking part as well.
