Opening the show this week was Brian Meaney, a former Green Party member and member of Clare County Council.
He discussed the possibility of log cabins being used as temporary housing for those saving for a house, especially around the Dublin area.
Dublin City Council is set to discuss the proposal. Sinn Féin has been critical of the idea. The idea comes after the Minister for Agriculture, Michael Creed suggested that farmers will have to plant a portion of their land with trees if Ireland wants to avoid multi-million euro EU fines. Creed insists amidst criticism that forestry can generate valuable employment and income and the idea that it is a last resort or failure for farmers must be challenged.
Then, it was time for an issue which always seems to impassion listeners, litter. Specifically, a recent study by IBAL (Irish Business Against Litter) showed Doolin Pier to be a litter blackspot. The group monitored more than 40 beaches, rivers and harbours around the country, with Lahinch and Kilkee also being highlighted as ‘littered’ and ‘moderatley littered’ respectively. Conor Horgan from IBAL spoke to Gavin about the results in more detail.
