To kick off the show, Gavin chatted with Dr John Hillery, Psychiatrist and General Election hopeful for Fianna Fáil, about the continued row over Fianna Fáil’s General Election candidate selection strategy. This comes after Councillor Cathal Crowe who had been hoping to represent the party in the next General Election is withdrawing from the selection race, after members were told that they would be selecting one West Clare candidate, and another from East Clare.

Currently, most drivers concerned about the state of roads after severe weather. 83.34 percent of respondents to an AA Roadwatch survey identified repairing damaged roads as a very important issue to them in the year ahead, placing road repairs as the third most important issue for motorists behind road safety and travel insurance. Barry Aldworth of AA Roadwatch, discussed the issue with Gavin on air.

Then, Clare FM’s James Mulhall reported on a media day that took place in UHL recently.

Following that, Gavin hosted ‘Garda Focus’ with Sergeant Joe Downey, Clare Crime Prevention Officer.

In reaction to James Mulhall’s report on the UHL media day, TD Dr Michael Harty joined Gavin on the air to talk about the statements UHL made during the day.

Then, Gavin heard a story from North Clare. Last December, Anne Marie O’Gorman’s daughter, Zara, had an accident and sustained serious injuries – so serious that the ligaments supporting her head had been torn. As they went through the treatment, a more sinister reason emerged and Zara has very recently been diagnosed with the rare and debilitating Ehler Danlos syndrome. The community has rallied around Anne Marie and Zara to raise the funds the little girl will need. A fundraiser will take place at Treacy’s West County Hotel at 8pm on May 4 (tickets are available from Centra outlets). More information is available on www.fundraiserforzara.com. Last week Anne Marie called to Clare FM studios and spoke with Morning Focus producer, Fiona McGarry. She began by outlining what happened to Zara.
