Morning Focus – Friday 30/03/18

Today’s edition of Morning Focus discussed the opening of Ireland’s pubs on Good Friday for the first time in over 90 years.

Pat Flynn was joined by solicitor Sheila Lynch, activist Dermot Hayes and Lahinch hotelier, Michael Vaughan. Listen back below:

The show opened with the theme of Good Friday drinking when Pat was joined by Clare Chair of the Vintners Federation of Ireland (VFI), Darragh McAllister.

Then, there was an update on the issue of versatis packs for the sufferers of chronic pain. The show returned to the story of Kilkee woman, Jennifer O’Meara who had HSE funding for her packs stopped in February. She believes more Clare patients should appeal to have their supports returned.

Then, Pat heard from Age Action Ireland who are concerned that most 65 year-olds have never been on-line. Justin Moran said his organisation is now calling for funding for more supports for training and education.

Ogonelloe-based playwright Eva O’Connor was next on the show to talk about her play ‘Maz and Bricks’.

Then, Pat heard from Dr Tomás MacConmara ahead of the screening at the Burren Storehouse in Lisdoonvarna of the film ‘Revolution in Colour’, footage from the early years of the 20th century in Ireland.

Weekend events, included details of the Quakerstown Point-to-Point as well as a walk in memory of the late Síle Callinan from Cree. It takes place in that village on Sunday and will raise funds for Cystic Fibrosis sufferers.

Also coming up soon will be a 24-hour cycle to raise funds for the Samaritans. Pat was joined by Daire Ó Criodáin and Peadar White. The Samaritans can be contacted on the freephone number, 116 123. There’s also more information here.
