War Of Words Over Traffic Calming And Cycle Lanes In Ennis

A war of words has erupted over new traffic calming measures and cycle lanes in part of Ennis.

Anger has been expressed by some residents and road users over the newly-developed lanes from the Kilrush Road to St Flannan’s School, in work funded by the Department of Transport.

A public consultation process got underway last year, after concerns were raised over speeding in the area, and the measures were subsequently voted through by Ennis Councillors.

Former member of Ennis Town Council and local resident, Michael Guilfoyle has told Clare FM’s Morning Focus that he believes the lanes are counter-productive.

But the current Mayor Of Ennis is defending the works.

A local authority survey found that over 60% of road users were speeding on that route, and Fine Gael Councillor Johnny Flynn says traffic calming measures were badly needed in the area.
