Ennis Mum Worried Masks Will Impair Communication With Her Young Daughter With Autism At School

Rachel Culligan from Ennis is the mother of 12-year-old Charlotte. Charlotte has PDD-NOS, a type of autism similar to Asperger’s. Due to early language difficulties, Charlotte relies on seeing people’s faces and expressions to communicate effectively with them.

But right now as everyone is wearing masks her mum says that ‘everyone is blank’ to Charlotte.

Ahead of Charlotte’s commencement of secondary school in a few weeks, Rachel joins us on the line to speak about her daughter’s situation.
