Concern over cycle safety initiative as minister casts doubt on 1.5m clearance zone.

The transport minister has cast doubt over a proposed law to penalise drivers who pass cyclists too closely.

Under the proposed new legislation, motorists would be obliged by law to pass cyclists no closer than 1.5 meters on roads with a speed limit of 50km/h or higher.
