Clare FM Catch-Up: Quin Family Fights For Access To Vital Cancer Treatment

The Dáil has heard a call for the State to open up access to a state of the art treatment that would assist some cancer patients, including a Quin woman.

Maria Meade, who has undergone surgery as part of her treatment, is now cancer free but has been advised to undergo an immunotherapy treatment, pembrolizumab.

Maria’s stage of cancer means that it is not available to her publicly, or through her health insurance, and a year’s treatment would cost €150,000.
