It’s hoped that new measures being introduced at the Cliffs of Moher will have significant benefits for both the local community and five nearby towns and villages.

A shuttle bus service, which will link the Cliffs with Ennistymon, Lahinch, Liscannor, Doolin and Lisdoonvarna is being launched to encourage visitors to park in those areas, and take the bus to the world famous tourist attraction.

The new shuttle bus service, which runs eight times daily, provides direct services between the five north Clare communities and the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience and Coastal Walk.

The move is part of a suite of measures to ease congestion at the world famous tourist attraction, and also aims to ensure that more economic benefits are derived from the 1.6 million visitors who go there each year.

Chair of the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience Board, Bobby Kerr thinks a number of businesses will reap the rewards of this service as it expands further.

This latest development is part of an overall masterplan which aims to provide a world-class visitor experience and boost current visitor numbers to over 2 million by 2025.

Clare County Council’s Director of Services, Leonard Cleary has acknowledged that a significant investment will be needed and that an expansion of the current offering will take years to complete.

But he’s told Clare FM’s Morning Focus that it will benefit the entire county.

The shuttle bus has received a broad welcome across Clare.

Lahinch Fianna Fáil Councillor Shane Talty, who will soon be appointed to the Board of the Cliffs of Moher, is hopeful that it might be extended to other towns and villages down the line.
