Tourism VAT Rate ‘Has Led To Creation Of 1,876 Jobs In Clare’

It’s estimated that nearly 2,000 new direct and indirect jobs have been created in Clare as a result of the 9% Tourism VAT rate.

Figures compiled by the Restaurants Association of Ireland show there were 4,281 people working in the Accomodation and Food sectors at the beginning of the year, with the state accruing €22 million a year from their payroll taxes.

The group has been a strong advocate of the 9% VAT rate which could now be set to change, after the Minister responsible, Shane Ross said he favours a multi-tier system that would see large hotelliers paying more.
