The alleged attacker is then thought to have stabbed a police officer before being shot near the House of Commons.

Scotland Yard says it’s being treated as a ‘terrorist incident’.

The British Prime Minister Theresa May was in the House of Commons chamber at the time, before being rushed to her car.

A Downing Street spokesman says she is safe.

The Houses of Parliament remain in lockdown, as does a large area around the Parliament building.

Here, the Minister for Foreign Affairs Charlie Flanagan says he’s not aware of any Irish people being caught up in the attacks but anyone with serious concerns for Irish people in the area can contact their Dublin office on 01 408 2527.
