The memo circulated to parents of pupils at Ennis National School last evening set alarm bells ringing and was widely shared on social media.

It stated that a man approached two children outside of the school and asked them about bringing them home.

The school’s principal said the man was unknown to the two pupils and urged parents to be vigilant, while the incident was reported to Gardaí.

In a statement to Clare FM today, Ennis National School said Gardaí have since contacted them to reassure the school and the parent body that it was a misunderstanding and that there was no risk to any child.

However, parents are being urged to take this as a reminder to teach their children about personal safety and stranger danger nonetheless.
