Serious concern has been raised over the future of a traveller support scheme in Clare.

The Primary Health Care Programme for Travellers, which has been working to improve health and life expectancy for travellers in the county, has been suspended, with the loss of 9 jobs.

The project’s host, the Ennis Community Development Project is to wind down at the end of June, and has so far been unable to transfer responsibility for the programme.

Efforts are underway to find a new host for the programme, and Community Sector Organiser with SIPTU, Eddie Mullins says it’s too important a scheme to lose.
