Sinn Féin To Confirm Clare Election Candidate This Week

Sinn Féin will be running a candidate in Clare in the upcoming general election.

The party will select its candidate in the coming days.

Today marks the first day of the formal general election campaign, with parties setting out their stalls ahead of next month’s vote.

So far, nine candidates have declared their intention to run in the upcoming elections in Clare.

That list will grow by at least one, as Sinn Féin has confirmed to Clare FM that it will field a candidate here.

Local branches of the party will nominate candidates in the coming days, ahead of a convention later this week – that’s been brought forward as a result of the election being called..

It’s understood that more than one candidate has expressed an interest in the role.

Labour, meanwhile, is not expected to field a candidate in Clare, while the Social Democrats say they will also be absent from ballot papers in this county.

There is no signal as of yet that People Before Profit will be represented either, although a request to the party from Clare FM has so far gone unanswered.

On the national front, Fine Gael launches it’s campaign in Monaghan today, with a focus on Brexit, while Fianna Fail and Sinn Fin are both holding events in Dublin.
