A 24-hour garda operation aimed at cracking down on speeding is underway in Clare.

National Slow Down Day will see additional Garda checkpoints on the county’s roads, and across the country, up until 7 o’clock tomorrow morning, in an effort to reduce speed related road crashes and save lives.

There have been 58 road fatalities across the country so far this year, an increase of two on last year, while there was also a 46 per cent increase in the number of speeding detections between January and April.
