Parents Asked To ‘Step Up To The Plate’ Ahead Of Expected Leaving Cert Parties In Clare

Parents are being asked to ensure that their children don’t take part in reckless Leaving Cert celebrations after they get their results on Monday.

It comes as locals in some of Clare’s coastal towns express concern about an influx of revellers over the coming days.

The longer-than-normal wait for Leaving Cert results will come to an end for students on Monday morning when students can collect their results online.

Undoubtedly, this rite of passage will spark celebrations but in some areas, this is sparking significant concern.

A joint statement has been issued by a number of councillors in the North and West of Clare, in which they ask any students considering travelling to coastal towns and villages to show respect for the local community and avoid any anti-social behaviour.

Among them is Fine Gael councillor Joe Garrihy – he says students can enjoy themselves but need to be mindful of public health guidelines and the local community.

Local representatives have made contact with GardaĆ­, to request that more officers be on hand to cope with any potential issues that may arise.

There are fears among locals that further resources will not be enough – but Fianna Fail councillor Cillian Murphy is optimistic that there will be an extra presence in coastal areas.

Meanwhile, local residents say parents of Leaving Cert students need to show responsibility by not allowing pupils to run “loose” when they receive their results.
