Motorists Urged To Drive With Caution After Temperature Drops

Motorists are urged to drive with extreme care on essential journeys in Clare, after temperatures dipped to as low as minus 4 in parts of the county overnight.

A yellow low temperature weather alert is in place until 12 o’clock this afternoon across the country.

Met Éireann has forecast hazardous icy conditions in places, with widespread severe frost and pockets of freezing fog.

Some roads between Ennis and Ennistymon are said to be particularly icy, as well as untreated surfaces, sheltered areas and entrances to housing estates.

The national forecaster says conditions will improve in the west from this morning.

But Cathal Nolan, from Ireland’s Weather Channel, says the temperature is still sub-zero in many parts.
