Money Generated By Ennis Data Centre “Could Upgrade Dangerous Junctions”

It’s hoped the millions of euro generated by a planned data centre on the Tulla Road in Ennis will be used to address safety concerns at some of the town’s busiest junctions.

The 51-hectare site that has been earmarked for the development is situated close to the Scarriff/Tulla junction of the M18 motorway.

The planned data centre for the Tulla Road in Ennis has been hailed as a game changer for Clare and is expected to support 1,100 direct and indirect jobs.

While the economic impact of such a development has received a broad welcome, some concern emerged from those living and working in that part of the county town.

Last evening saw local representatives agree to re-zone the 51 hectare site to assist with the development – but ahead of that vote, 17 submissions from concerned residents and business owners were received.

Director of Services with Clare County Council Liam Conneelly says these people will be listened to.

Hope has also been expressed that the money generated by the data centre will be put to good use.

In recent months, serious concern has been raised about safety at a number of junctions in Ennis.

The Tulla Road exit from the M18 and Ballymacahill Cross on that road have both been highlighted as worrying for the thousands of motorists passing daily.

Some funding has already been allocated to address these issues but Fine Gael’s Johnny Flynn, himself a Tulla Road resident, is confident that the money raised by the data centre will be a welcome boost too.
