Man Appears In Court In Connection With Ennis Assaults

A 24-year old man has appeared in court concerning three alleged unprovoked assaults on individuals aged in their 50s, 60 and 70s in Ennis town centre on Monday evening.

At Ennis District Court, Pavel Kratochvil of Ard Caoin, Gort Rd, Ennis appeared in connection with the three alleged assaults on April 1st.

In the case, Mr Kratochvil is charged with assault causing harm of Brian Meeney; the assault causing harm of Gabriel Doyle at Supermac’s on Ennis’s O’Connell Street and Martin Concannon on Monday  evening.

Mr Kratochvil was arrested on Tuesday at Laurel Lodge, Ennis and Mr Kratochvil made no reply to the caution and charge.

In court, Sgt Aiden Lonergan objected to bail.

Sgt Lonergan said that it will be alleged that  the accused carried out the unprovoked assaults on the three aged in their 50s, 60s and 70s.

Sgt Lonergan said that the State has very high quality CCTV of what is alleged to have taken place while the State also has a number of independent witness statements.

Sgt Lonergan said that the alleged victims in the case required hospital attention which will result in medical reports to be provided.

Judge Patrick Durcan said that he was refusing bail and remanded Mr Kratochvil in custody to appear via video link on April 10th at Ennis District Court.

Solicitor Daragh Hassett said that his client has psychiatric issues and that the warrant for prison ask that Mr Kratochvil be assessed.

Judge Durcan also directed that the Prison Governor have a psychiatric assessment on the accused.
