Jobs Minister Welcomes Mid West Jobs Boost

The Mid-West has recorded the largest reduction in dole queues of Ireland's regions in the past year.

The number of people in Clare, Limerick and North Tipperary claiming some form of unemployment benefit is over 3,800 less than at the same point last year, after 2,500 people left dole queues here last month.

Nationally, 4,700 people came off the Live Register last month and the overall rate of unemployment is down to 11.1 per cent.

Full figures for Clare will be released tomorrow.

Today's news comes as Canadian company announces it will create 140 new jobs in the Midwest. 

Optel Vision is setting up base in Limerick city at Raheen Business Park, it works with pharmaceutical companies to ensure all products are labelled correctly and are securely packed. 

The company is 25 years old and this development marks an expansion of its European operations. 

The Minister for Jobs Richard Bruton  has been welcoming the announcement and says there'll be further announcements for the MidWest shortly.
