EPA – Drinking Water Supplies Will Be In Line With EU Standards By 2020

The Environmental Protection Agency has said that public drinking water supplies will be in line with EU standards by 2020, 16 years after the deadline for compliance.

Supplies were 99% compliant in 2017, which means the water was safe to drink, according to the EPA’s latest Drinking Water report, but 72 supplies remain at risk of being contaminated with things like E.Coli and other parasites.

Irish Water concentrated it’s upgrade works on 10 areas across the country in 2017, including Clare, and the ultilty says upgrading works on 38 other supplies will be finished by the end of the year

There are 3 supplies in Clare on the EPA’s remedial action list, namely Corofin, Ennsitymon and West Clare, and issues at their treatment plants are due to be dealt with next year.
