Ombudsman To Review Medical Card Process Following Clare Man’s Campaign

A terminally ill Clareman hopes the Ombudsman’s review of the medical card system will lead to fairness, transparency and accountability within the HSE.

Quin Man John Wall is entitled to a medical card without a means test, as his stage four prostate cancer is certified as incurable, but his card was cancelled twice, prompting him to mount a campaign online and in the media.

He made a number of complaints to the Ombudsman, all of which have been upheld, and Peter Tyndall has now agreed to undertake a review of the application process to ensure that it’s in harmony with guiding legislation.
