Gardaí continue to hold McCarthy murder suspect

 

Gardaí  will today continue to question a man suspected of the murder of Ballyvaughan woman Deirdre McCarthy.

The 39 year old Clare man was arrested under section four of the Criminal Justice Act yesterday and was detained at Ennis Garda Station overnight.

As mourners gathered for an emotional funeral service for Ballyvaughan woman Deirdre McCarthy yesterday gardaí  detained a man in connection with her death.

The 39 year old was arrested in Galway shortly before 12.30 following his discharge from hospital and brought to Ennis Garda Station.

He’s being held under Section four of the Criminal Justice Action on suspicion of the murder of 43 year old Deirdre McCarthy who gardaí  say died a violent death.

The North Clare woman’s body was discovered on Fanore Strand last Thursday after three days of searches and she was laid to rest in Bishops Quarters Cemetery yesterday.

The man being questioned by gardaí  on suspicion of her murder could be  charged or released later today
